We’d been looking forward to a trip up Snowdon
Infact we’d been looking forward to it for a year or so, but several things needed to fall together for it to be possible:
- I needed to grow enough to be able to do the walk happily
- I needed to be fit and also well practiced with my walking pole
- The weather needed to be just right
- Jane & AnnMarie had to have a completely free day
- Ideally we wanted to go in term time – to avoid the crowds
Well today was the day, everything had come together and last night we’d sat down together to make a plan. The plan was to park Poppy Pickup in Llanberis, take the train up Snowdon, spend some time on the summit before starting to walk down via the Snowdon Ranger Path. Then part way down we’d stop for a picnic and then cut across to the Rhyd Ddu path. Once at Rhyd Ddu we’d take the bus to Beddggelert & then on back to Llanberis.
We arrived at Llanberis at 8-15 on a beautiful sunny morning, then we bought tickets for the 9-30 train. The train journey was great fun,

all those people, the chugging of the engine, a man talking about dragons & glaciers, ancient armies and looking after the mountains. A few places were a bit scary (BIG drops) but only a bit. When we got to the top it was a little windy but the view was amazing …

So after a little while we started on our walk down, after a few hundred metres we stopped for a drink. Here’s a picture of Jane and I with Anglesey and the Menai Straits behind us …

Then, a lot further down the mountain we stopped to have our picnic. We were all ready for a break. We sat by the side of a gently babbling stream and with the hot sun beating down. I LOVE picnics. We had ham, cheese, salad, crisps, rolls and water.

After lunch we quietly wondeered down past streams, old slate workings, and lots of cattle & sheep. Then we caught the bus back to the pickup. I had a huge ice-cream before we drove home.
After a big supper, I’m ready for bed – goodnight.
