A week ago last Wednesday we were the proud acquirers of a new telescope;
to help with my education and just as a fun interest too.
Well we’ve had a week to get to grips with it and the weather has been kind, giving us a few clearish days & nights.
You absolutely must have a proper solar filter attached to the scope, if you intend to view the sun.
Here’s me, using a Baader solar filter to study the sun.
Oh and for those who’re interested, the scope is a Schmidt-Cassegrain design.
We’re very pleased.
Photography through telescopes is a tricky thing, not only do you have all the normal concerns like exposure & focus; but you also need to have the telescopes mount set up to track the object in the sky. This is all because we (the earth) are rotating at quite a pace, so the planets and stars seem to move. We’re trying various techniques of astrophotography but more on that again, when I understand a bit more.
There’s been no moon in the week, for us to start out with, so we’ve tried for some other views, the sun by day and Saturn, Venus & M42 (in Orion) by night.
